Hello Friends and Family,As many of you know 2016 will be the year of my 5oth birthday. As I approach a half century here on earth, I have been trying to come up with a way to acknowledge and celebrate this milestone. I am not a big party person, always feeling I never get the chance to talk to everyone , I am already blowing my travel budget escorting Jonah and his choir to New York in March and I always do things that I want and have no desire to jump out of a plane so I have been searching for something meaningful to do that I can share with my friends and family. After much thought I came up with the idea of doing 5o unique walks during the 2016 calendar year. While I go for a walk almost every day and often venture into the local forest parks and beaches for a stroll, I like the challenge of finding roughly 1 different walk to do ever week. Over the course of the year I hope to get a chance to reconnect with friends, spend some quality time with my family including my dog and see some places in and around Victoria ( for economy's sake I am focusing on Vancouver and the Gulf Islands and the lower mainland but I am keeping an open mind) that maybe I have never seen before.
Right now I am at the planning stage!! Love planning! I am compiling a list of walks and friends that would like to walk with me. I would love to join with you at one of your favourite places, walk in a charity fundraiser that has meaning for you or take on some sort of challenge. I would like to walk with individuals and groups, I would like to do one 50K walk and I would love a walk where we could get at least 50 of us out at once. Walks with coffee, walks with wine, walks with a bit of a climb......
List your suggestions and invitations in the comments.
Some ideas already out there are,
Women's snow shoe walk and overnight at Mt. Washington (thanks Erin)
Grouse Grind (walking not running:)
Olympic Mountains
Mt. Maxwell
Cowichan River Walk
I also have the Day Hikes Vancouver Island Edition 4 and will probably do every single one of them so East Sooke, Thetis, etc.
My camera is going to go with me and I will be blogging throughout the year and making a scrapbook/journal cataloging the weather, companions and challenges along the way.
Hope you will join me!
Liz
PS. Please feel free to share this post on Facebook or anywhere. I am open to all ideas and hope maybe to inspire others to get out there.
